The Linguistic Society of Germany (DGfS) has been promoting scholarly research on language since 1978 and provides linguistic expertise for the public, the media, and educational institutions.
With more than 1,200 members representing all areas of linguistics, the DGfS connects the scholarly community and makes linguistic knowledge accessible to a wider audience.

The Zeitschrift für Sprachwissenschaft (ZS) was founded in 1981 by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft (Linguistic Society of Germany). Since 2025, it is published by PubliKon at the University of Konstanz in a Diamond Open Access format.
